Words on a Screen
© 2007 David White
you say you hate
having to separate
and doing it so hastily
you say it grieves you
to say you need to leave to
focus on the family
spoken through words on a screen
you say you know
this is quite a blow
all we’ve achieved’s thrown away
you say you care
you’ll keep me in prayer
the words on the screen look okay
I want to believe what they say
your actions spawn some suspicions
of redactions, flagrant omissions
a meaningless letter in which you failed to come clean
I deserve better than empty words on a screen
I want to believe
the words on my screen
I want to believeSilly Me

- said all of the right things
pulled all of the right strings
gained all that my trust brings
you turn, then you misguide
like rot on the inside
you plot to divide
I thought we were friends
I thought you’d be there for me
I thought we were friends
but now I see
something got in your head
you let it go unsaid
spoon-fed me with lies instead
feel right in your own eyes
even as you tell lies
in your empty goodbyes
I thought we were friends
I thought you’d be there for me
I thought we were friends
but now I see
It’s a bond that depends
on trust and honesty
I thought we were friends
silly me
a confidence betrayed
a callousness displayed
fond memories degradeIt Don't Make No Sense

- too many times my mind has wandered
wasting energy to wonder why
it don’t make no sense
thirteen and a half months squandered
camaraderie that’s torn asunder by
common courtesy’s absence
you would not extend a hand
as you pulled off your defection
now I’d like to extend a finger
in your general direction
your inexplicable actions
mystified and left me scratching my head
they don’t make no sense
now the whole has become fractions
the bridge you burned is beyond patching it’s dead
and it don’t make no senseToo Good to be True

- from out of nowhere you appear
it’s like an angel came down here
just what I’m looking for
I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us
you’ve got the gift, you’ve got the groove
I know my life has just improved
my mind is racing,
my heart is embracing togetherness
but you
stopped short of seeing it through
I did everything I could do
but you were too good to be true
when you get restless, you move on
as quickly as you came, you’re gone
there’s no time for bracing
you’re already chasing another lead
I hope you finally settle down
stick a root into the ground
you’ll never flourish
till you patiently nourish fidelityDo The Flip Flop

- a babbling buffoon
excessive words are strewn
less real and more cartoon
exuberant, you swoon
you were over the moon
until you changed your tune
you do the flip flop
unbridled praise professed
euphoric words expressed
typed in your blog with zest
even if I was impressed
it wasn’t worth the rest
when you do what you do best
you do the flip flop (3x)
you flap your lips
swivel your hips
you do the flip flop
no one can top
the way you flip flop
it’s a serious mistake
to seriously take
anything that you spake
a quintessential flake
no doubt you take the cake
with the moves that you can make
you know you can’t stop
you do the flip flop
you flap your lips
swivel your hips
you do the flip flop
you’re the cream of the crop
when you do your flip flop
180 degrees
before I can even sneeze
you’re nothing but a tease
you probably you think you’re cool
some kind of Paula Abdul
but you look like a faltering foolYou Can't Hurt Me No More

- you can't hurt me no more
you can't hurt me no more
you done did all you could
to hurt me real good
you can't hurt me no more
since you walked out the door
you can't hurt me no more
the damage is done
now you’re on the run
you can't hurt me no moreRock'n Roll Radio

- Rock'n, rock'n'roll radio let's go
Rock'n, rock'n'roll radio let's go
Do you remember Hullabaloo,
Upbeat, Shindig and Ed Sullivan too?
Do you remember rock'n'roll radio?
Do you remember rock'n'roll radio?
Do you remember Murray the K,
Alan Freed, and high energy?
It's the end, the end of the 70's
It's the end, the end of the century
Do you remember lying in bed
With your covers pulled up over your head?
Radio playin' so no one can see
We need change, we need it fast
Before rock's just part of the past
'Cause lately it all sounds the same to me
Oh oh oh oh, oh oh
Will you remember Jerry Lee,
John Lennon, T. Rex and OI Moulty?
It's the end, the end of the 70's
It's the end, the end of the century
